One of my favourite ways to draw is blind contour. For those who don't know what that is: blind contour drawing is when your eyes stay on the subject you are drawing, never looking down to the paper to see what is happening. It's such a fantastic way to free oneself of judgement—and to truly see what you are looking at. If you move slowly, both with looking and drawing, the lines will record the path of exploration, surprising you with delightful details. I often begin a drawing session with this technique both to warm up and also to look at what I'm drawing in a way I mightn't otherwise.
